Er. Ho Siong Hin (何祥兴)1  has been re-elected as the President of the Professional Engineers Board (PEB) on 8 Jan 2018 for a three-year term ending 31 Dec 2020. He leads a 15-member Board, which took office on 1 Jan 2018.

The Board comprises six members elected by the community of professional engineers (PEs), six others appointed by the Minister for National Development and three ex-officio members.  Seven of the fifteen Board members are new to the PEB. (See Annex A or the full list of Board members)

The new Board will continue to build on the work of the earlier one to raise the standard and profile of professional engineering practice in Singapore. In recognition of the efforts and achievements of the previous Board, Er. Ho said, “I would like to place on record my appreciation of the previous Board. They have worked with me on major initiatives. These include the registration of professional engineers in new and specialized branches (namely chemical engineering, lift and escalator engineering, crane engineering, access platform engineering and pressure vessel engineering), and working on key amendments to the PE Act.”

Commenting on the work ahead, Er. Ho said, “I look forward to working with the new Board to put into effect the changes related to the amendments of the PE Act. These amendments would enable the Board to better regulate and develop the profession.  In the new term, the Board will work closely with our stakeholders, in particular various government agencies, the Institutes of Higher Learning, the Institution of Engineers Singapore and the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore. The Board is committed to the advancement of the profession to support the needs of our industries. The Board will also work with the PE community to better meet the changing needs of stakeholders and the general public.”
