Associate Professor, Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar
Singapore University of Technology and Design
Bige is an associate professor and capstone program director at the Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar of Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). At SUTD, she leads the Informed Design Lab. The lab’s research focuses on (big) data informed urban planning and design, combining multi-source, multi-scale, and multi-time data, around questions of which behavioral hypotheses can be drawn from specific urban data sets and their combinations, as well as the relationship of such hypotheses with the spatial and organisational aspects of urban spaces.
In Singapore, she has led and participated in various prominent research projects, such as the National Science Experiment, Sustainable Urban Living – Livable Places project, FCL2 Big-Data Informed Urban Design and Governance project, and Pedestrian Comfort in Crowded Pathways project.
She received her PhD in Architecture (design informatics) from TU Delft, her MSc in Architecture (computational design) from Carnegie Mellon University, and her BArch from Middle East Technical University. She was an assistant professor at TU Delft, a visiting professor at the Chair of Information Architecture at ETH Zurich, a visiting scholar at MIT, and a visiting professor at the Computer Engineering Department of University of Pavia, Italy.
