Synopsis


Singapore aims to achieve long-term net zero carbon emission, peaking emissions level by 2030, and halving it by 2050. With these ambitious targets in mind, the public and private sectors will have to work closely hand-in-hand to introduce/implement green initiatives. Through this Sustainability-themed webinar, expert speakers from Government, Research Institutes and Industry will share insights and industry initiatives on decarbonisation.

About the Speakers

 

Calvin Chung

Calvin is the Group Director (Engineering) and Chief Sustainability Officer of JTC. A government agency under Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, JTC is paving the way forward for Singapore’s industrial landscape by championing clean, green and smart estates such as one-north, Seletar Aerospace Park, Jurong Innovation District, and Punggol Digital District. It is developing infrastructure, systems and initiatives that bridge cutting-edge technology and human skill to fuel growth.

Calvin oversees the full spectrum of engineering design for the development of JTC’s industrial building and infrastructure works. In his current appointment, he is also in charge of driving the Built Environment R&D, digitalisation plans and sustainability agenda in JTC.

Calvin possesses deep technical expertise in reclamation, environmental engineering and sand sourcing in the public sector. He is active in inter-agency technical committees, engaging a wide range of partners, experts and stakeholders across departmental, ministerial and national boundaries on coastal issues. He also works with experts on issues like coastal protection and the impact of climate change in Singapore. He is particularly interested in environmental impact assessment and hydrodynamics simulations and was directly involved in the execution of the Pulau Ular reclamation, which was one of the first marine project to implement a comprehensive environmental assessment and monitoring throughout the entire project.

 

Jonathan Low

Dr. Jonathan S.C. Low is the Acting Director of the Sustainability & Life Cycle Engineering Division at A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech). In this role, he is responsible for charting the research direction in the areas of life cycle assessment (LCC) and life cycle costing (LCC) for techno-environmental-economic analysis, data science applications in the domains of decarbonisation and circular economy, and innovation of low-carbon and circular production technologies.

He is also actively contributing to development of international standards through his roles as the chairperson of the Technical Committee on Environmental Management overseen by Singapore's Environment and Resources Standards Committee (ESRC), and as an expert member representing Singapore in ISO TC 323 Circular Economy.

Allan Lim

Allan is the Chairman and Founder of Comcrop, established in 2014 Singapore’s first rooftop farm producing leafy green vegetables for local supermarket. As a pioneer of urban agriculture in Singapore, he had worked with Ministry of National Development and other agencies such as SFA, URA and ESG to establish regulatory and promotion efforts for emerging agriculture industry in Singapore.

He is the founder of Alpha Biofuels and Comcrop, 2 local companies that are in the forefront of urban sustainability, Alpha biofuels produces low carbon biodiesel from waste cooking oil while Comcrop grows fresh pesticide free leafy greens on a rooftop farm in an industrial estate.

In 2020, Mr Lim co-chaired the Task Force for opportunities in agriculture and is also a member of the Alliance for Action for Agri-tech.

Yvonne Soh is the Executive Director of the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC), an industry organization founded on a strong public - private partnership to drive the transformation of Singapore’s built environment. With her background as a registered Professional Engineer (Civil) and Green Mark Accredited Professional, Yvonne takes a structured approach to driving corporate action on climate change with the council’s various certification and engagement programmes.
