This webinar will focus on the technologies and innovation for a resilient built environment – a topic of increasing importance as Singapore seeks to address the growing stock of aging infrastructure, raise productivity and adapt to climate change.

About the Speakers


Dr Johnny Wong

As the Chief Technology Officer/ Senior Director (R&D) in the Ministry of National Development (MND), Dr Wong looks into mapping the R&D and technology development workplans for the MND family, essentially promoting research collaboration with both public and private organisations so as to scale up R&D investments and technology transfer efforts to the industry. He also serves as Group Director of Building & Research Institute (BRI), and is responsible for leading HDB’s efforts in spearheading innovative, cost effective solutions and technologies to create a better living environment and achieve greater sustainability.

Dr Wong is responsible for promoting Smart and sustainable development initiatives in HDB buildings and estates. Some of the initiatives which he spearheaded included the development of the HDB Smart Town framework to map out the deployment of Smart initiatives, deployment of solar energy systems in public housing, Smart Integrated Construction and integrated environmental modelling for optimising thermal comfort. With notable contributions to his field of work as a Professional Engineer, Dr Wong has been conferred several awards including the Henry-Boot Award, Laverick-Webster-Hewitt Award, the Institute of Civil Engineers Award and Public Administration Medal (Silver).

Richard Kuppusamy is a construction technology evangelist and the Head of Lendlease Digital Asia. Driven by a passion for technology and innovation; Richard is a noteworthy leader in digital delivery processes and technology, a charted British Architect, and serves on the board of several non-profit social services organisations.

 

Prof Jeremy Watson

Jeremy Watson CBE is Professor of Engineering Systems at UCL. Concurrently, he is Chief Scientist and Engineer at the Building Research Establishment (BRE). A past MHCLG Chief Scientific Adviser, he has industrial experience as BOC (Edwards) plc Technology Director, and Global Research Director at Arup.

Jeremy is a Fellow and Trustee of the Royal Academy of Engineering (and recent past Chair of the National Engineering Policy Committee). His specialties include emerging technology identification, cybersecurity at the ‘Edge’, sustainable engineering, research strategy and innovation processes.

Jeremy is currently Director of a £25m National Centre of Excellence funded by EPSRC and 100+ industrial and government user partners, composed of 16+ universities collaborating on Cybersecurity of the Internet of Things.

 

Cheng Tai Fatt

Mr. Cheng Tai Fatt is the Managing Director of Built Environment Research & Innovation Institute (BERII) in the Building and Construction Authority.

In BERII, he oversees the development and implementation of Built Environment R&I solutions in focused areas identified under the Construction ITM. He helped to formulate the BIM/IDD roadmap and is tasked to drive a highly integrated construction value chain by harnessing use of construction IT such as BIM and Integrated Digital Delivery technologies. He is also a buildingSMART International Fellow.
