Mr Lee Fook Sun appointed as Chairman of the Building and Construction Authority

Mr Lee Fook Sun, President of ST Electronics Limited, will be appointed as the Chairman of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Board with effect from 1 April 2016. Mr Lee, who is currently the Deputy Chairman of the Board, will succeed Mr Quek See Tiat who will be stepping down from the BCA Board at the end of the current term. 

Mr Quek has served on the BCA Board for the past 15 years, and has been BCA’s Chairman since 2007. During his term, he provided guidance on the introduction of policies and initiatives to promote the development of green, high quality and user-friendly buildings in Singapore. He also oversaw major reviews to enhance the safety standards in our built environment, including the expansion of BCA’s functions to include the inspection of amusement rides and coastal protection management. In addition, Mr Quek guided BCA in the development of the Construction Productivity Roadmap to steer the built environment sector towards higher productivity through technology adoption, more integrated building processes as well as raising the quality of the workforce in the sector. 

Existing board member Mr Norman Ip, Chairman of WBL Corporation Limited, will succeed Mr Lee as the Deputy Chairman of the BCA Board. In addition to Mr Lee and Mr Ip, six existing board members will be re-appointed and six new board members will join the Board. All appointments are for a three-year term commencing 1 April 2016. 

The six new board members bring with them a wealth of experience and professional expertise in the construction and business sectors. They will offer valuable perspectives and insights for the built environment sector. With these appointment changes, the BCA Board will have 14 members. The full list of board members is at Annex A

The new Board will continue to play an active role in guiding BCA's strategies and programmes to develop a safe, high-quality, sustainable and friendly built environment, and to lead the transformation of the built environment sector to achieve higher productivity. 

Commenting on his appointment as the Chairman of the new Board, Mr Lee said, “The past five decades have seen the built environment sector undergo immense growth and progress. These are exciting times as we step into the future to create buildings that are safer, more productive and operationally efficient. I look forward to working with the members to support BCA's efforts to encourage productivity improvement and the adoption of technology to create a sustainable and intelligent built environment for Singapore.”
