Written Answer by Ministry of National Development on safe use of park connectors

Feb 12, 2019

Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong: To ask the Minister for National Development in the past year, what actions have been taken to promote the safe use of park connectors by users who are on foot, cyclists, and PMD users including safe and orderly adherence to the respective lane markings for users on foot and for "PCN" (Park Connector Network) users.

Answer:

NParks works with its stakeholders and the community to promote the safe and orderly use of park connectors (PCs). First, NParks implements safety measures such as installing additional lighting, speed regulating strips, and advisory signs at high usage parks and park connectors. In 2018 alone, NParks installed over 2,000 advisory signs. Second, NParks conducts outreach programmes to raise awareness on PC etiquette, including the need for users to keep left and give way to others. For example, NParks and its volunteers produced and released the “PMDs in Our Parks” video on social media in May 2018. Third, NParks and LTA conduct joint enforcement efforts against errant Personal Mobility Device (PMD) users, such as those who exceed the speed limits or ride recklessly. In 2018, 56 enforcement exercises were conducted at popular parks and PCs.
