Jul 9, 2018

Er Dr Lee Bee Wah asked the Minister for National Development whether HDB can install CCTVs in its multi-storey carparks and the lifts serving the carpark to deter crime and those who smoke in the lifts.

Answer:

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) works closely with HDB and Town Councils to ensure and enhance security in public housing estates. Currently, HDB Multi-Storey Car Parks (MSCPs) have Police cameras installed at strategic locations such as lift lobbies, entrances and staircases. These cameras have proven to be effective in helping to deter crime. HDB will install CCTVs in existing MSCP lifts, where necessary.

As for smoking in lifts, the National Environment Agency (NEA) takes a serious view towards smoking violations, and NEA officers are deployed to investigate and enforce against smoking violations. Ultimately, residents must also do their part and be considerate by not smoking in the lifts.
