New President Leads the Professional Engineers Board

President and Board Composition

Er. Ho Siong Hin (何祥兴), Divisional Director, Occupational Safety & Health Division and Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health, Ministry of Manpower, has been elected as the President of the Professional Engineers Board (PEB) on 9 Jan 2015 for a three-year term ending 31 Dec 2017. He will lead a 15-member Board, which took office on 1 Jan 2015.

The Board comprises three ex-officio members, six members appointed by the Minister for National Development and six members elected by the community of professional engineers (PEs). Of the fifteen Board members, six are new members while nine have served in the previous Board. (See Annex A for the full list of Board members)

The new Board will continue to build on the work of the earlier one to raise the standard and profile of professional engineering practice in Singapore. In recognition of the efforts and achievements of the previous Board, Er. Ho said, ‘I would like to place on record my appreciation of the previous Board led by Er. Lau Joo Ming who spearheaded a number of initiatives such as the registration of specialist professional engineers in amusement ride engineering, conduct of a public consultation exercise to seek feedback on proposed amendments to the PE Act and introduction of the Distinguished PE Award.’

Commenting on his appointment, Er. Ho said, ‘I look forward to working closely with our stakeholders, in particular the Universities, Institution of Engineers Singapore and the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore. The Board is committed to the advancement of the profession to support the needs of industries as well as working with the PE community to meet diverse needs.

Stepping down

Six Board members have stepped down from the PEB after completing their term of office (see Annex B).

The Ministry of National Development (MND) and PEB would like to welcome the new Board members and also express deep appreciation for the outgoing members for their invaluable contributions towards the professional engineering profession.
