New Appointments to the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority Board

Six new members will be appointed to the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) Board with effect from 1 April 2015. Chairman of the Board, Mr Koh Soo Keong will be re-appointed, along with seven other Board members. Five members are stepping down from the Board.

New Board Members
The six new AVA Board members come from diverse backgrounds, each bringing with them extensive knowledge and expertise in areas such as public service, business, academia, and media and communications. Mr Lim Neo Chian, former Director, Economic Development Innovations Singapore Pte Ltd, will be appointed as the Board’s Deputy Chairman. The other new Board members, appointed on a 3-year term, are:

i. COL (Dr) Tang Kong Choong, Chief Naval Medical Officer, Singapore Armed Forces;

ii. Ms Chua Mui Hoong, Opinion Editor, The Straits Times, Singapore Press Holdings Limited;

iii. Professor David Chan, Director, Behavioural Sciences Institute, Singapore Management University;

iv. Mr Lau Teck Sien, Partner and Chief Investment Officer, HOPU Investments Co. Limited; and

v. Ms Harasha binte Khalid Bafana, Director, Adam & Hawa Network.

Re-appointed Members
Mr Koh Soo Keong, Managing Director of EcoSave Pte Ltd, has been re-appointed as Chairman, AVA Board, for a further one-year term. Seven existing Board members have also been re-appointed, for three-year terms. They are:

i. Ms Tan Poh Hong, Chief Executive Officer, AVA;

ii. Mr Peter Chia Leong Bin, Chief Operating Officer, Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Limited;

iii. Mrs Lee Ai Ming, Senior Consultant, Rodyk & Davidson;

iv. Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, Assistant Secretary-General, National Trades Union Congress & Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC;

v. Mr Tan Kok Yam, Head, Smart Nation Programme Office, Prime Minister’s Office;

vi. Mr Eugene Wong, Founder and Managing Director, Sirius Venture Capital Pte Ltd; and

vii. Mr Dileep Nair, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Members who are stepping down
MND and AVA wish to thank the five Board members who are stepping down, for their invaluable service, guidance and contributions during their tenure. They are:

i. Professor Zhou Weibiao, Professor and Director, Food Science & Technology Programme, Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore (Board Member from April 2008 to March 2015);

ii. Dr Azlinda Anwar, Assistant Director (Research & Enterprise Development), Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Limited (Board Member from April 2010 to March 2015)

iii. RADM (Dr) Kang Wee Lee, Chief of Medical Corps, Singapore Armed Forces (Board Member from April 2010 to March 2015);

iv. Mr Teo Eng Cheong, Chief Executive Officer, International Enterprise (IE) Singapore (Board Member from April 2011 to March 2015);

v. Mr Felix Soh, Digital Media Editor, Singapore Press Holdings (Board Member from April 2012 to Dec 2014)
