Mr Gan Thiam Poh: To ask the Minister for National Development for each type of flat in the past five years (a) what are the percentages and numbers of HDB BTO applicants who have obtained HDB housing grants; (b) what are the numbers and percentages for each type of grant; and (c) what is the lowest price for that type of flat for the successful grant applicant?
Answer:
First-timer households buying a flat from the HDB enjoy a subsidised flat price, and may receive up to $80,000 in housing grants, comprising the Additional CPF Housing Grant (AHG) and Special CPF Housing Grant (SHG). Among the first-timer households that had booked a flat between Jan 2014 and Dec 2018, about 48,600 or 61% have obtained the AHG and/or SHG (as detailed in Table 1).

1. The table refers to unique approved AHG/SHG cases that booked a flat from 1 Jan 2014 to 31 Dec 2018.
2. Percentage is based on number of first-timer households enjoying AHG/SHG for that flat type over number of first-timer households who have booked a flat of that flat type.
3. The table excludes housing grant for purchase of units from private developers under the Design, Build & Sell Scheme and Executive Condominium Housing Scheme.
The lowest flat prices (after grants) paid by the successful grant applicants are set out in Table 2.
