SMS Desmond Lee Visits Ecuador For United Nations Habitat III Conference

Oct 14, 2016

Senior Minister of State (SMS) for Home Affairs and National Development Desmond Lee will visit Ecuador from 16 to 19 October 2016 to represent Singapore at the 3rd Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, also known as Habitat III.

Habitat III is a major conference held every 20 years since 1976 to affirm the global commitment to sustainable urbanisation. By consensus, the Conference will adopt the New Urban Agenda, which charts the new global strategy for urbanisation over the next 20 years.

During the Conference, SMS Lee will deliver Singapore’s National Statement. He will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the Government of Singapore with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). The MOU outlines the partnership between the Government of Singapore and UN-Habitat to develop international capacity development programmes for cities.

SMS Lee will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
