Municipal Services Awards 2022 awarded to 23 nominees
11 community-led project winners reflect larger role of community partners and volunteers in addressing municipal issues and shaping a better shared living environment for all

The annual Municipal Services Awards (MSA) Ceremony was held on 29 November 2022 to recognise excellent citizen-centric delivery of municipal services and inter-agency collaborative efforts to achieve effective solutions to address municipal issues. The Awards also recognise community partners and individuals who have worked closely with MSO and agencies to better serve residents.

23 award recipients have been selected out of a pool of 124 nominations. There were 11 winners in the Team Category, 9 winners in the Community Category, 2 winners in the Individual Category and 2 winners of the Love ‘Our Hood Award.

i. Team Category: Winning inter-agency teams demonstrated excellent teamwork to develop innovative, sustainable and scalable systemic solutions to complex and cross-cutting issues.

ii. Community Category: Winning projects demonstrated active community participation and strong ground-up efforts, in partnership with agencies and Town Councils, to develop impactful and effective solutions to resolve complex issues.

iii. Individual Category: Winning public officers went beyond their call of duty to deliver efficient municipal services promptly to residents.

iv. [New] Love Our ‘Hood Award: Community groups and individuals who have consistently exemplified a collaborative spirit for the upkeep and improvement of their community or local living environment.

Recognising community efforts and partnerships at the local level

Over the years, community members have stepped up to take on a more proactive role in resolving municipal issues and shaping community norms for communal living. While the pandemic may have created challenges and added stress to community life, it has also reminded everyone of the importance of being good neighbours and being part of the solution to neighbourhood issues.

To better recognise community efforts and encourage everyone to take greater responsibility to work together on municipal issues, we have introduced the new Love ‘Our Hood Award, expanded the nomination process of MSA Community category to the community, and appointed a panel of independent community stakeholders to assess our community-related awards (See Annex A for members of the panel).

“It is really heartening to see so many community and volunteer groups working behind the scenes without fanfare to resolve intractable ground issues. Without this collective resolve, efforts alone by government agencies might be less effective.” - Mr Loo Deliang, Associate Director (Analytics & Behaviour Change), National University of Singapore and a member of the MSA community panel.

Details on the award recipients and their compelling stories are appended in Annex B. Please contact Ms Pauline Leong (pauline_leong@mnd.gov.sg, 93360503) to arrange media interviews with these recipients.

Nominations for the 2023 MSA will open in January, and interested parties may follow the OneService Community social media pages for the latest announcements on the award criteria and nomination processes, which will be released next year.
