Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman Attends The 2015 G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting in Istanbul

Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Minister of State for National Development and Defence, will be attending the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, from 7 to 8 May 2015.

At the meeting, Dr Maliki will share about Singapore’s efforts in minimising food losses and waste along the food supply chain and our contributions to global food security through Research & Development. He will also stress the importance of cross border information exchange on animal and plant health diseases which can impact food safety, public health and trade. 

Additionally, the G20 Agriculture Ministers will discuss how the G20 member countries can support the achievement of sustainable food systems to enhance global food security and nutrition through the implementation of the Food Security and Nutrition (FSN) Framework. In particular, the meeting will focus on advancing efforts in reducing food losses and waste along the food supply chain.

The meeting also seeks to endorse Turkey’s Ministerial Communiqué which calls for the promotion of infrastructure in agriculture and investment to increase agricultural productivity in low-income developing countries (LIDCs), enhancing productivity and human capital in smallholder agriculture in LIDCs, advancing efforts on reducing food loss and waste; and mainstreaming food security and nutrition into other G20 work streams. 

Dr Maliki will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of National Development and the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority.
