Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim: To ask the Minister for National Development out of the estimated 150 HDB blocks that are not eligible for the Lift Upgrading Programme, how many HDB units in those blocks do not have direct lift access.
Answer:
HDB has implemented the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) for over 5,000 blocks.
There are about 150 blocks where it is not feasible to implement LUP due to high cost, or existing technical or site constraints. Within these blocks, about 20% of the units, or 2,000 flats, do not have direct lift access. HDB will continue to look for cost-effective solutions to improve accessibility for residents living in these flats.
In the meantime, MND has introduced the Lift access Housing Grant (LHG) of up to $30,000 to help residents with medical or mobility issues buy a new or resale HDB flat with direct lift access.
