A record 493 awards were given out at this year’s BCA Awards by the Building and Construction Authority on 13 June. The BCA Awards recognise built environment sector firms for construction and quality excellence, design and engineering safety, universal design, construction productivity, and sustainable design.
To mark the 15th year since BCA’s Quality Mark (QM) scheme was introduced, a new award category, the Quality Star Champion Award was launched this year. The award recognises leading developers and builders who have shown commitment to QM and who have been consistently delivering high-quality workmanship in their projects. City Developments Limited and Woh Hup (Private) Limited received the inaugural Quality Star Champion Award for having obtained five Quality Excellence Platinum awards.
Engineers Aaron Foong of KTP Consultants and Kam Mun Wai of Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd were the top award recipients of BCA’s Design and Engineering Safety Excellence Awards for their creative engineering solutions. The People’s Association (PA) and Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) also came through as BCA Green Mark Champions for taking the lead in greening their buildings. And for the Universal Design Mark Award, integrated development Ascott Orchard Singapore and Cairnhill Nine with Al-Falah Mosque bagged the Platinum Award for offering dual-key concepts to accommodate multi-generational living options.
At the award ceremony, BCA also launched a human resource (HR) guidebook developed in consultation with industry firms. The guidebook contains the industry’s best practices as well as HR templates, self-assessment tools and other resources. It aims to help firms in the built environment sector to improve their HR practices in order to attract, retain and develop talents.
