“Celebrate Ubin”

At the end of a year-long series of activities to “Celebrate Ubin”, NParks announced the establishment of a new fruit tree arboretum and conservation of a Chinese kampung house on Pulau Ubin (known as Teck Seng’s Place) on 3 Dec 2016. At the event, SMS Desmond Lee launched the NParks Community In Nature Biodiversity Watch: BioBlitz @ Ubin – the first 24-hour survey to document biodiversity on the island. Over 24-hours, members of the public joined 35 naturalists and researchers to document biodiversity on the island.

“Trees of the World” at the Singapore Botanic Gardens

"Trees of the World", a Christmas light-up event at the Singapore Botanic Gardens was launched together with a new community involvement programme. "Give To The Gardens Programme" aims to raise funds for research, outreach and education efforts at the gardens. More information on the “Trees of the World” here.

New land reclamation method at Pulau Tekong

Singapore will be adopting a new method of land reclamation – the empoldering method – at the north-western tip of Pulau Tekong. Works is expected to complete around 2022. Details on how Pulau Tekong is getting bigger through this innovative and cost-saving method here.

Professional Engineers Board Day of Dedication 2016

Over 250 Professional Engineers (PEs) attended the Professional Engineers Board’s Day of Dedication 2016 on 5 November 2016 and pledged to continue their service to society and commit to high standards of professional engineering practice. A record number of 102 PEs were also registered this year, compared to the same period in the last 8 years. Read more in our press release.
